From January 27, 2019 to February 8, 2019 follow in the footsteps of Christ on a Pilgrimage to Israel, Palestine and Jordan for 13 days of prayer, reflection and sightseeing. DAY 1: DEPART CANADA Sun. Jan. 27

Board your flight for the start of your Pilgrimage to Tel Aviv, the largest city in Israel. Complimentary meals and a selection of beverages are served on board.

DAY 2: ARRIVE TEL AVIV – Transfer to Tiberias for 3 nights Mon. Jan. 28

On arrival in Tel Aviv you will be met and transferred to your comfortable hotel on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Dinner will be served at the hotel. Mass will be celebrated at the Church of St Peter in Tiberias.

DAY 3: NAZARETH, CANA, MT CARMEL Tue. Jan. 29

The Annunciation

Drive to Nazareth, the site of Mary’s home and the town where Jesus lived as a child. At Nazareth, celebrate Mass in the Basilica of the Annunciation, and visit the Byzantine Church of St. Joseph and Mary’s Well. Visit the convent of the Sisters of Nazareth where one of the nuns will give a tour of the fascinating excavations discovered there. Also visit Nazareth Village which is a recreation of what the village probably looked like at the time of Jesus. In the afternoon visit Cana, where Jesus performed His first miracle at the request of His mother [John 2:1-11]. There visit the Franciscan chapel where those who wish to can perform the renewal of their wedding vows. In the afternoon visit Mt Carmel where we see Elijah’s cave at the Monastery of Stella Maris and enjoy the view of the Bahai Gardens. Return to hotel. Dinner.

DAY 4: TIBERIAS: SEA OF GALILEE & BANIAS Wed. Jan. 30

The Ministry of Christ in the Galilee

The day starts at the Mount of Beatitudes, scene of Jesus’ great Sermon on the Mount. Then to Tabgha where Jesus fed the crowd of 5,000 and onto the site known as “Peter’s Primacy”. Here, after His resurrection, Jesus met with His disciples and told Peter to “feed my lambs; feed my sheep.” [John 21:9]... A short drive away is Capernaum, from where Jesus launched his Ministry; see the synagogue which dates to the time of Jesus and the church built over the site of Peter’s home. Celebrate Mass in this special place. The day with also include a Boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. In the afternoon visit Caesarea Philippi, also known as Banias. It was here that Peter recognized Jesus as the messiah and where Jesus told St. Peter, “You are the Rock, and upon this rock I will build my Church.” Banias is also the source of the River Jordan. Return to your hotel for dinner.

DAY 5: MT. TABOR , JERICHO, JERUSALEM Thu. Jan. 31

The Transfiguration

Start the day with a drive to Mount Tabor, the site of the Transfiguration, with time to reflect on Christ’s Humanity and Divinity, and prepare for the journey to Jerusalem where Jesus was to suffer the crucifixion and resurrection. Mass here will be at the Basilica here designed to represent 3 tents. Upon descent from Mt Tabor head down the Jordan Valley to Jericho, the world’s oldest continuously inhabited city, to view the Mt of Temptation and see an example of a Sycamore Tree. End the day in Jerusalem at hotel.

DAY 6: EIN KAREM, BETHLEHEM & BETHLEHEM UNIVERSITY Fri. Feb. 1

The Visitation and Nativity

Morning visit to the village of Ein Karem, birthplace of John the Baptist, to visit the church that commemorates his memory. Drive to Bethlehem to see the cave at the Shepherds’ Field. The caves have soot marks of the fires that shepherd’s lit to keep warm while watching over their flocks. Continue to nearby Bethlehem University. Here, after a short orientation DVD, we will engage with some students in discussion before sharing a special lunch in the on-campus restaurant run by the University’s Institute of Hotel Management and also visit the beautiful chapel. In Bethlehem walk up to Manger Square which stands in front of one of the oldest of Christian churches, the Church of the Nativity. Enter the Church and down to the Grotto of the Nativity which marks the spot of Jesus’ birth. Beneath the Altar, there is a silver star with the Latin inscription: HIC DE VIRGINE MARIA JESUS CHRISTUS NATUS (Here Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary). After Mass at the Church of St. Catherine return to Jerusalem for dinner

DAY 7: MT. OF OLIVES, GETHSEMANE MT. ZION Sat. Feb. 2

Palm Sunday and the Agony in the Garden

From the Mount of Olives take in the panoramic view of Jerusalem. Then to the Pater Noster shrine, where Jesus taught His disciples the Pater Noster — The Lord’s Prayer (Luke 11:1-4). Walking down the Palm Sunday Road stop at the beautiful little church, Dominus Flevit - “The Lord wept.” It was here that Jesus wept over Jerusalem [Luke 19:41].

Visit the Benedictine Sisters on the Mt of Olives.

At Gethsemane reflect on Jesus’ final night. The Garden contains trees, the roots of which go back to the time of Jesus. Visit the Church of All Nations to pray at the “Rock of Agony,” a section of bedrock identified as the place where Jesus prayed alone in the garden on the night of His arrest.

From there, take the route through the Kidron Valley along which Jesus was taken as a prisoner to the house of the High Priest Caiaphas where He was interrogated and imprisoned. Now called Peter in Gallicantu (“crowing rooster”), this beautiful Church also commemorates Peter’s Denial of Christ, his repentance and then being forgiven by Jesus. Visit the dungeons under the church. We celebrate Mass. After Mass, go up to Mt. Zion to visit the Upper Room, commemorating the Last Supper. Nearby is the Benedictine Church of the Dormition. Return to hotel for dinner.

DAY 8: JORDAN VALLEY / MASADA / QUMRAN/ JERICHO Sun. Feb. 3

Early Years in Jerusalem & the Wilderness.

Drive through the Judean Wilderness where Jesus spent 40 days fasting. Visit the historic and awe inspiring Masada where the Jewish rebellion made its last stand against the Romans in 70 AD. Drive north to Qumran where the Dead Sea scrolls were found then to Jericho, the world’s oldest continuously inhabited city. Here, view the Mt. of Temptation and see an example of a Sycamore tree. Celebrate Mass in Jericho before returning to Jerusalem

DAY 9: VIA DOLOROSA, HIGH MASS AT THE HOLY SEPULCHRE, EMMAUS Mon. Feb. 4

The Way of the Cross, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection

This morning we start the Via Dolorosa (The Way of the Cross) at the Antonia Fortress, where Jesus was condemned to death by Pontius Pilate. From there He was taken through the city to be crucified. The Stations of the Cross lead, through the markets of the Old City to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Here is the site of Calvary and the Tomb of Christ. Attend High Mass at the Tomb of Christ in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Later in the morning go to the Southern Wall of the Temple Mount ponder the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, the finding of Jesus at the Temple and the healing of the blind man at the Temple. Visit the Western Wall of the Temple Mount then walk to see the Church of St Anne and the Pool of Bethesda, where Jesus healed the crippled man.

Walk through the Jewish Quarter to see the Roman Cardo and along the Bazaars of the Moslem Quarter. visit to Qubeibeh, also known as Emmaus

DAY 10: JERUSALEM – MT NEBO – MADEBA KINGS HIGHWAY – PETRA Tue. Feb. 5

Cross the Allenby Bridge into the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Visit Bethany Beyond the Jordan Baptismal site then drive up out of the Rift Valley and join the historic King's Highway. Visit the Christian village of Madeba to see the ancient mosaic map of the Holy Land. Drive on to Mount Nebo where Moses viewed the Promised Land. You can see the Jordan Valley, Jericho and the Judean hills beyond. Also see the remains of Byzantine church with their mosaic floors. Celebrate Mass at the Church where Pope Benedict prayed in 2009. Drive south to Petra for overnight.

DAY 11: PETRA - AMMANWed. Feb. 6

A full morning to explore the Red Rose city of Petra. Walk to the site through the dramatic "ciq" or canyon. See the Treasury, carved in the pink stone, and continue past the Roman theatre, the Corinthian Tomb and Palace Tomb to the Roman road. Transfer to hotel.

DAY 12: AMMAN- JERASH – AIRPORT Thu. Feb. 7

A full morning to explore the Red Rose city of Petra. Walk to the site through the dramatic "ciq" or canyon. See the Treasury, carved in the pink stone, and continue past the Roman theatre, the Corinthian Tomb and Palace Tomb to the Roman road. Transfer to hotel. Dinner at hotel and transfer to airport.

DAY 13: AMMAN – AIRPORT Fri. Feb. 8

Transfer to Airport for return journey home early in the morning.

This pilgrimage involves walking, and at times on uneven uphill cobblestones. This requires our guests to board and disembark our vehicles several times a day. This may make this tour unsuitable for those with reduced mobility.

For the benefit of everyone in the group, Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation and Uniglobe LGI Travel reserve the right to accept or reject anyone who may be deemed incompatible with the interest of the other participants. Salt and Light or Uniglobe will not refund or cover any cost or expenses incurred for termination of vacation arrangements due to unacceptable or incompatible behavior. Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation and Uniglobe LGI Travel are not responsibile for any missed activities due to a participant’s inability to participate with the group.

Special Assistance:
You must report any disability requiring special attention, at the time of registration. We reiterate that this pilgrimage involves walking on uneven, rough terrain, and requires travelers to board and disembark our vehicles several times a day making this tour unsuitable for those with reduced mobility. We regret that we cannot provide individual assistance to any participant on any aspect of this Pilgrimage. A qualified and physically able companion must accompany travelers who need special assistance. It is the guest responsibility to arrange for such assistance prior to making their reservations. Motorized vehicles are unsuitable and not possible to arrange.

Reservations, deposits and payment:
- A non-refundable deposit of $500.00, plus optional Travel Insurance premium is due at the time of booking.
- A copy of the information page of your current passport must accompany this completed form. Passports must be valid at least up to June 2019.
- Balance is due October 19, 2018.
- A 3% service fee will apply when payment is made by credit card (Visa and Master Card).
- If a booking is made 90 days or less prior to departure full payment is due.
- Reservations received after this date are subject to availability and currency fluctuations.
- We recommend strongly that you purchase cancellation insurance.

Completing the Registration Form indicates your acceptance of the Terms and Conditions, and your non-refundable deposit of $500.00 is due at the time of booking. The deposit is required to reserve your place with hotels, airlines, etc. The final payment must be received by October 19, 2018. Late reservations must be accompanied by full payment.

All documents will be sent by email. Please provide your email address as this will be our main mode of communications.

Prices and Taxes

The prices quoted are per person in Canadian Dollars. Unless indicated otherwise beverages except coffee and tea during breakfast service, travel insurance, and fuel surcharge. Gratuities and taxes have been included in the total price. Gratuities are considered mandatory and will be distributed to your service providers (i.e. guide, coach driver and hotels).

Our preferred form of payment is by cheque. Payment by credit card and will incur an service of 3% (Visa or MasterCard).

Air Travel – Deviations or Extensions

If you wish to deviate from the group travel arrangements or if you wish to extend your trip, this must be specified in writing, at the time of your reservation. All requests are subject to airline regulations and availability. Your acceptance of the new arrangements must be done in writing by email or fax, and once accepted, the changes will be confirmed and any additional changes will be subject to fees. Some changes may require immediate non-refundable payment (i.e. airline upgrades). Salt and Light cannot be held responsible for any delay or flight changes incurred by the airline. All group travel is offered in discounted economy class and as such, advance seating assignments are not available. Your preference may be requested and will be assigned at check in based on availability. Please advise your air mileage account at the time of reservation. Although we make every effort to apply the appropriate frequent flyer number to your reservation when it is provided to our office, we recommend that you show your card to the check in agent on departure day. We cannot guarantee that the points will be posted to your account otherwise.

Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation and Uniglobe LGI Travel will not be held responsible for any delay or flight changes by the airline.

Dietary Restrictions

Dietary restrictions and special meals during air travel must be requested at the time of your reservation. This information will be provided to the proper personnel. Please note that not all dietary requests can be accommodated, and we appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Itinerary Changes

We reserve the right to make reasonable changes to the itinerary when necessary for the comfort and well-being of the group. While we strive to operate the program as described in the promotional materials, changes to the itinerary, accommodations, services or order of the visits may be required due to local circumstances.

Responsibility of the Participant

It is important to note that the amount of walking many of our pilgrimages can be significant and the terrain may vary greatly. You may encounter hills, mountains, unpaved streets, cobblestone streets, etc. It is your responsibility to ensure that this tour suits your abilities. Those requiring extra assistance must be accompanied by a travelling companion that can administer this assistance. Also, note that some activities may not be suitable for your individual circumstance and any unused services will not be refundable. If you are not accustomed to physical activity, we recommend that you begin walking "briskly" 1-2 times a day; build up to 2-3 miles with no discomfort.
