A Pilgrim Pope: Benedict XVI in the Holy Land
On May 8, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI embarked on the most highly anticipated and carefully watched Apostolic Voyage of his pontificate: his visit to the Holy Land. Pope Benedict was only the third pontiff to make this pilgrimage and Salt + Light brought you continuous live coverage of this historic event.
The trip came at a time when the Christian population of the Holy Land was dwindling, the need for dialogue with the Jewish and Muslim faiths was greater than ever, and a strong moral voice was required to encourage political leaders to find peace.
Now join Kris Dmytrenko and Alicia Ambrosio in this look back at the highlights of Holy Father’s historic pilgrimage to Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian Territories.
Special guests also offer their insights into the key moments of the pilgrimage. Kris speaks with Haroon Siddiqui, editor emeritus of the Toronto Star and commentator on issues of importance to the Muslim community. Alicia sits down with Fr. Darren Dias, O.P. to talk about the Pope’s visit to Jewish holy sites. Finally, Fr. Thomas Rosica shares his first-hand experiences of Christian pilgrimage sites in the Holy Land.
