November 2009

Road of Hope - JPII Film Fest

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Road of Hope enjoys a successful screening at Miami’s
John Paul II International Film Festival

November 11, 2009 (Miami)Road of Hope: The Spiritual Journey of Cardinal Nguyen Van Thuan was screened at the John Paul II International Film Festival in Miami, a new festival modelled on and inspired by the writings of the late Pope. Produced by Salt + Light Television, the movie helped to close the week-long festival in front of an international audience that included the documentary’s director, David Naglieri, leaders from Miami-based film and university programs and a relative of Cardinal Van Thuan.

“The festival captured the essence of John Paul II’s call for evangelization through media, and offered a glimpse into the vibrant Miami Catholic community,” said David Naglieri, the director of the movie who was recently appointed to the communications department of the Knights of Columbus Headquarters in New Haven Connecticut.

Organizers of the John Paul II International Film Festival screened 20 films in the feature film category from among more than 100 entries submitted.

Road of Hope documents the life of Nguyen Van Thuan, a Cardinal in the Catholic Church who overcame imprisonment, political oppression and nine years of solitary confinement at the hands of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Launched in 2008, Road of Hope offers an unprecedented glimpse into the life of a modern day martyr and saint.
