A brief history of how the Sisters came to be in London
Mother Catherine Aurelia Cauouette founded the Sisters of the Precious Blood in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec in 1861. The early years were marked with poverty and great hardship. Yet new members continued to join the community to share in the life of prayer and sacrifice. Eventually, new communities were founded and in 1912, as St. Peter's Seminary in London was just opening, the rector, Father V. Tobin contacted the monastery in Toronto. There, he learned of their plans for a new foundation in the United States, but, obstacles were preventing the realization of this foundation. Father Tobin seized this opportunity and quickly approached Bishop Fallon with the hopeful request that this community be invited to London. Bishop Fallon responded favourably and invited the Sisters to come to his diocese. The Sisters received the news with excitement and underwent preparations to found the new monastery immediately. And so, in 1913, Mother Mary Teresa Lanphier founded the new London monastery and became its first Superior.
