Matthew Harrison Producer
Matthew is a fresh face at the Salt + Light family. He arrived, by a stork from all accounts, in October 2006. You can usually find him plugging away behind the scenes and every so often showing up in front of the camera.
Originally from Trenton, Ontario, Matthew moved to Toronto in 1996 to study Radio and Television Arts at Ryerson University. After graduating in 2000 he worked at Broadcast News, the broadcast division of the Canadian Press, as a studio editor. In 2002 Matthew attended World Youth Day in Toronto. It was an event that changed his life!
According to him, World Youth Day was the culmination of a series of events that finally changed his lukewarm, nominal practising Catholic heart, into a heart set on fire with the love of Christ and His Church.
Filled with this new fire and yearning to know his faith better, Matthew decided to study philosophy at St. Philip’s Seminary in Toronto. Through his studies, the example and friendship of the Fathers of the Oratory (who run the seminary), and those around him, Matthew rediscovered his faith.
He sees himself as part of the new evangelization, and longs to share the love of Christ with others. He is also passionate about helping others to better understand and love their Catholic faith and the Church -- its teachings and traditions.
When Matthew isn’t at the Salt + Light offices, you can find him using salt in the kitchen, where he enjoys cooking. To compensate for his excessive creation of desserts and his love of incorporating maple syrup into “just about anything,” Matthew is an avid jogger (note: avid, not necessarily accomplished!). And on those long jogs on the Toronto waterfront, or any off road trail he can get his feet on, you’ll find him listening to all kinds of music, particularly contemporary Christian music, including his favourite band ‘Delirious?’ And when he isn’t at work, in the kitchen, or jogging? Maybe you’ll find him sitting under the stars of Algonquin Park listening to the loons and inhaling the sweet scent of pine. Or perhaps you’ll catch him in downtown Toronto enjoying roasted marshmallow ice cream or his favourite Thai dish; golden tofu curry. Perhaps you’ll see him on a streetcar, Rosary in hand (his beads are always a mainstay in his left pocket!). When all else fails, try checking the corner of a Church. It’s a safe bet he’ll be there sitting before the Lord contemplating the greatness and love of our God… or just quietly listening.
